What Affects a Body Repair Estimate

Read the scope before comparing totals

Identify the damaged areas covered by each estimate. Look for repair versus replacement, the type of proposed parts, refinishing, trim removal and any outside services. Two totals are difficult to compare if they describe different work.

Ask the estimator to explain any line you do not understand. Keep the estimate date and version with your records.

Separate known work from open findings

Ask what can be established from the visible damage and what requires disassembly. Discuss the authorization and charge for any further assessment before it begins.

Settle payment questions early

If insurance is involved, confirm the approved amount, deductible and any disputed or uncovered items with the insurer. For customer-pay work, ask how scope changes and payment milestones will be handled.
